Emma Lee Cole Williams, 93
Celebration of Life Services for Mrs. Emma Lee Cole Williams, 93, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Fellowship Baptist Church, 410 North Circle, Bossier City, Louisiana. Officiating will be her grandson, Pastor Termaine Williams of Shiloh Baptist Church in Benton, Louisiana. Entombment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery, 3700 Saint Vincent Avenue, Shreveport, Louisiana.
Open visitation will be Friday, December 20, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the church.
Emma Lee Cole Williams was born March 12, 1931, in Taylortown, Louisiana. She was the only child of Jessie Lee Cole and Will Hargrove. The Lord called her from labor to her reward on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at home surrounded by her family.
She confessed Christ early in life at the Waterloo No. 2 Baptist Church in Taylortown, Louisiana, where she remained a faithful member until her health prevented her from attending. Sister Williams dutifully served as a member of the Usher Board for over sixty years and served as Usher Board Treasurer for many years. When the ushers formed their own choir, she also became a member. The choir would often attend programs at various churches singing and praising the Lord. Sister Williams was a woman of great faith who loved her church family at Waterloo No. 2 Baptist Church. She made it possible for the church to acquire a set of drums for the music ministry and additional tables for the fellowship hall. Her famous quote was "I thank God for how good He has been to me".
On November 6, 1949, she was united in marriage to Willie "Bill" Williams, and to this union five children were born.
During her lifetime, she worked at various industries throughout Bossier City; Bossier Medical Center, Town and Country Motel, Louisiana Army Ammunition Plant, and retired from Caddo Door and Veneer Inc. She was always willing to help others and believed in treating people right. She was well respected and fondly known as "Ms. Emma" by coworkers. She was strong-minded, took pride in her appearance, was a good listener and friend to all who knew her. She was very multi-talented; she even knew how to do some work on her car and repair things around the house. She was our family barber; cutting her husbands hair until his passing; cutting her three sons hair before they started going to the barbershop and continued to cut a close friend of the family hair until he became disabled. Sister Williams loved going to church, enjoyed watching sports, working in her yard, and spending quality time with her family and friends.
During President Barack Obama second term, she had the opportunity to tour Washington, DC including a tour of the Capital and the White House. When she celebrated her 90th Birthday, former Mayor Lorenz "Lo" Walker declared March 12, 2021, as "Mrs. Emma Lee Williams Day" in Bossier City, Louisiana and asked all citizens to join in recognition of her longevity of ninety years of life.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was affectionately called "MoDear" by her children, "Grandma" and "Granny" by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She instilled many godly values in her children to have faith in God, work hard, get an education, be honest, kind, grateful, treat people right, and help others whenever you can.
Sister Williams was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 58 years, Willie "Bill" Williams in 2008; her youngest son, Michael Wayne Williams, Sr. in 2022; five sisters, Alma Hargrove Williams, Nettie Hargrove Houston, Christine Hargrove Jordan, Beatrice Hargrove Richardson, Lucinda Hargrove Patterson; four close first-cousins who were just like her sisters, Cora Lee Burks, Dorothy Mae Williams, Jessie Smith and Rosie Mae Myles.
She leaves to cherish her memory and legacy: two daughters, Mae Betty Williams Moore of Bossier City; Dorothy Ann Hines and husband Greg of Haslet, Texas; two sons, George L. Williams and wife Cynthia of Bossier City, Ray Williams and wife Sheila of Shreveport; and amazing, talented grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly; her favorite cousin, Johnny Smith; Sharon Ware Williams and Linda Collins Williams of Shreveport; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and longtime friends.
The family would like to give special thanks to her longtime physician Dr. Allen Cox, Bossier EMT, Willis-Knighton Bossier ER, doctors, nurses; Lifepath Hospice staff, nurses, especially Alison Watson, and Tonnette Williams; Lifepath Chaplains, Rev. Chris Hough and Caroline Wilkerson, for their prayers, devotion and compassion.
Sincere thanks to the staff of Success Adult Day Care Center, Leading Home Health Care Service, special dedicated caregiver, Brittany Bunnery, caregivers, Rita Black, Shemyia Johnson and Shermarian Demmery; family friends and caregivers Mary Ann Harris, and Mary "Doday" Adams, for their tender care and attention to our mother. Much love and appreciation to daughter-in-law Cynthia Williams, precious granddaughters Erica, Brianna, Kanesha, and grandson Tramel Williams. Heartfelt thanks to personal friends of the family, Carolyn Kay Lucas and daughter Keeuna Lucas for the many gifts presented to her over the years. Our gratitude to all her cousins, and anyone who rendered their time and service during her lengthy illness with Dementia/Alzheimers.
She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. We thank God for her life.
