Obituary for Lucy Wilkins
Sister Lucy Wilkins was born on Thursday June 11th, 1953 in Shreveport, LA to the late LB Wilkins Sr and Joanna Holt Wilkins.
She was a 1971 graduate from Booker T Washington High School. She attended Southern University in Baton Rouge and received her BA in Elementary on May 17th, 1975. She started sub teaching and in April of 1976 she was hired as an office clerk at JS Clark Middle School where she late became a teacher. She retired from JS Clark after 33 years in June 2009. She was the secretary of the Orientation Committee, a member of the Junior Mission and on many occasions a speaker for various churches. In July 2025 she retired after 34 years of faithful and dedicated service as the secretary of Avenue Baptist Church where she had been a member since she was 8 years old.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brothers Huey P Holt and Lewis B Wilkins Jr; and her sisters Joanna Raspberry, Freddie Mae Holt Hawkins, and Clara B Stump.
Those left to cherish her memories are her sister Gloria Briggs of Shreveport.LA. Her nephews Terry W Holt of Shreveport, LA, John Stump (Sherdina) and Shawn Thompson of Harrisburg, PA, and Reginald Briggs(Pam) of Ocean Side,CA. Her nieces Camilla Stump and Schumetta Jackson(Brad) of Harrisburg, PA. Her cousin Flora Hudson (Artis) of Shreveport, LA. And a host of other family members and friends.
A service celebrating the life of Ms. Lucy Wilkins will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Avenue Baptist Church located at 901 W 70th Street, Shreveport, Louisiana 71106.
Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, at Good Samaritan Funeral Home.
She will be laid to rest in Lincoln Memorial Park located at 6915 W 70th Street, Shreveport, Louisiana 71129.
